Advanced Manufacturing and Materials

The Centre will establish a comprehensive platform for advanced materials through the study of materials structures, electronic structures, mechanical behaviour, charge transport, catalytic reaction and functional responses in the molecular and atomic scales. The fundamental studies will deepen the understanding of the mechanisms of advanced materials and hence will guide the processing and application of the high-performance materials for advanced manufacturing, special sensors, advanced medical treatment equipment, health care, renewable clean energy, environmental protection, and energy conversion and storage applications.

This program is a collaborative R&D and education initiative in advanced manufacturing and materials (AMM) led by National University of Singapore (Chongqing) Research Institute (NUSRI-CQ, bringing together experts from interdisciplinary areas of design, manufacturing, materials, and computation from Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS). This research will be carried out collaboratively with research institutions and industries in Chongqing and countrywide.

The research programme covers the following four sub- programmes:

An integrated platform with multifunctional CAD/CAM/Digital-Twin tools for the hybrid manufacturing process chains

Digital platform of integrated design, manufacturing and end-of-line for product life cycle of high-value products

High-fidelity simulations of physical and chemical processes in advanced manufacturing and materials synthesis/processing

Advanced structural and functional materials, and devices
