The first 2023 International OpenFOAM Combustion Workshop (OFCW 2023) was successfully held on June 19-20. The Workshop was hosted by NUS (Chongqing) Research Institute (NUSRI-CQ), co-hosted by Chongqing University, Peking University, Beihang University, Zhejiang University, Institute of Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Southern University of Science and Technology and China-Russia Mathematics Center (Nanchang Base), and sponsored by Shuguang Zhisuan, SUGON and Yi Jieyang.

The Chairman of OFCW 2023 is Professor Zhang Huangwei (NUS, NUSRI-CQ), and the Academic Committee is composed of OpenFOAM experts from the United States, Germany, Italy, Finland, Saudi Arabia and China.

The contents of Workshop included 8 invited reports, 12 expert thematic reports, more than 40 oral reports from young students and more than 20 poster displays, and 6 outstanding oral report and 3 outstanding poster rated for awarding of "Shuguang Cup" in total, with more than 160 attendees present at the Workshop.

This Workshop is held to gather talents to discuss the latest progress and challenges based on OpenFOAM combustion simulation, promote the integration and application of OpenFOAM and numerical science and technology in aerospace, new energy, new materials and artificial intelligence, and drive the development and breakthrough in these fields.

  Grand Opening

【Opening speech by Professor Wang Jiagong

Professor John Wang, Director of NUSRI-CQ, gave an opening speech for the Workshop and expressed warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the attendees. Professor John Wang said that NUSRI-CQ, with the support of the Chinese and Singapore governments, carries out applied research, personnel training and the transformation of international technological achievements. He hoped that this Workshop would provide an offline academic exchange platform for experts, scholars and industrial people from all over the world in the fields of combustion simulation and OpenFOAM application for joint contribution to the development of combustion science.

  【Speech by Professor Liao Qiang

In his speech, Professor Liao Qiang, Director of School of Energy and Power Engineering of Chongqing University, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the organizers, co-organizers and all the experts and scholars attending the meeting. Professor Liao said that the Workshop has built a bridge between academia and industry, promoted exchanges and cooperation between researchers and industry personnel, and would bring cleaner and more efficient technologies to shape the future of combustion engineering and provide better solutions for sustainable energy development.
