The Centre will establish a comprehensive platform for advanced materials through the study of materials structures, electronic structures, mechanical behaviour, charge transport, catalytic reaction and functional responses in the molecular and atomic scales. The fundamental studies will deepen the understanding of the mechanisms of advanced materials and hence will guide the processing and application of the high-performance materials for advanced manufacturing, special sensors, advanced medical treatment equipment, health care, renewable clean energy, environmental protection, and energy conversion and storage applications.
In this translational R&D programme, a team of multidisciplinary experts in advanced sensing, AI, and data analytics will work together to develop practical smart city solutions based on intelligent sensing with embedded AI and data analytics for fast industry adoption in China (particular in the Chongqing region). Of our particular interest is the use of multi-sensor fusion and embedded AI to develop a smart platform for traffic and transportation monitoring and control.
In the Centre for Modern Logistics, we will fully utilize advances from both NUSRI-CQ and Singapore to develop tools and technologies, and train key manpower (engineers, PhD students, and researchers) specialising in the field of Operations Research and Analytics, pertaining to its applications in the field of modern logistics.
Modern finance is closely related to mathematics, statistics, and computer science. Advanced quantitative finance techniques, such as quantitative risk management, asset allocation, and pricing and hedging of financial derivatives, have been widely employed by financial institutions. Recently, the digitalisation of financial industry is thriving globally and promotes the transition towards a data driven environment, evidenced by innovative analytics-based products and technologies such as Fintech, Blockchains, and Regtech. The increasing need for understanding the on-going evolution in financial industry has driven growing development of AI empowered solutions, launch of educational programs and academic-academic/industry collaborations.
